Yesterday on 17 of September was the first day of RIPE NCC Regional Meeting that took place in Marriot Grand hotel conference-hall. RU-CENTER Company occurred to be host party. It was expected that total number of participants will be about 150 people but more than 220 people were their.
A lot of questions concerning current situation and perspectives of Internet development were considered on the conference. Andrei Kolesnikov hold opening speech. Olaf Kolkman told about structure of IETF, IPSec, DNSSEC organization and problems of IPv6 implementation.
After 10 minutes break round table about “Internet Governance” took place and deputy minister of relations and mass communications of Russian Federation Alexei Soldatov, representatives of .RU zone Coordinating Center Mikhail Yakushev and Andrei Kolesnikov, member of RIPE Robert Blokzijl and executive director RIPE NCC Axel Pawlik participated in it.

The main idea that they mentioned was that Internet community should participate actively in the development of Internet. We should follow any efforts to control address and domain space of network and complain about it. It is desirable to do it in written form addressing objections to government bodies. The main thing is that we should not be silent. Finally we know that president Medvedev and prime-minister Putin are on our side.
Further chief scientist RIPE NCC Daniel Karrenberg shared information on impending start of RIPE Labs project – labs.ripe.net. It will be possible to get acquainted with technologies that are in development now and to discuss them in forum on this website. Registration will be opened next week and official opening of the website will be on the 6 of October at the meeting in Lisbon. Current version of website is available on pigeon.ripe.net.
Maxim Tuljev told about IP Hijacking attacks and showed it on test website:

IP Hijacking attacks represent great danger as there is no existing effective methods to manage them. This type of attacks can lead to password and e-mail search attacks, changing of DNS-servers, DDoS-attacks, requests and responds search attacks between clients and database server, audio-reception of VoIP-calls and many other troubles. As actions of IP Hijacking possibility decreasing Maxim recommends to use control facilities, IP-addresses certification and application of dynamic passwords.
Remaining part of the conference was dedicated to issues of IX (Internet eXchange). Also Andrei Robachevski, Valeriy Temnikov, Pavel Khramcov, Andrew de la Haye, Jochem de Ruig, Rickard Lamb and others presented the papers.
Celebration dinner in honour of 20 years jubilee of RIPE took place after the conference in “Vremena goda” restaurant:

After contests, disco and a cake the bus afforded happy, gorged and drunk IT workers to Marriot Grand. Tomorrow they will have hard day – the second and last part of conference will be dedicated to IPv6 protocol.
